Zoe & Sam’s Beautiful Wedding Day at Saint Martins Church, Sale
Zoe and Sam’s wedding at Saint Martins Church in Sale, Greater Manchester, was a wonderfully personal celebration, filled with family, friends, heartfelt moments and the kind of genuine happiness that makes photographing weddings such a privilege.
There was something particularly special about this wedding day. Church weddings don’t come around as often as once upon a time, and this church wedding was a beauty. Saint Martins Church is a hidden gem in the Greater Manchester town of Sale. It’s perhaps more often recognised as the fictional ‘St. Edmond’s Church’ in Weatherfield…featuring in the storylines of the longest running television soap in the world, Coronation Street.
But the choice of this venue was closer to home for Zoe, right round the corner from her parents house. And for both Zoe and Sam – it had become part of their lives, having regularly attended the church in the months leading up to their wedding.
So, when their wedding day finally arrived, there was a lovely feeling that this wasn’t just a stunning and cosy wedding venue. It was a wedding taking place amongst friends, familiar faces and a church congregation who already knew Zoe and Sam.

A very special arrival
Whilst the rain made an appearance before the ceremony, it certainly didn’t dampen the excitement.
Guest arrived early and a gathering of friends and family huddled together and waited excitedly under a canopy at the entrance to the church grounds.
As midday approached, the groom arrived with best man Dave and after some emotional hugs, everyone moved inside the cosy church, waiting for Zoe and her Dad to arrive.
And what an arrival it was.
Zoe pulled up outside Saint Martins in a beautiful silver open-top Jaguar, ready to make her entrance in style. Wearing a modern sleeveless white bridal dress, finished with elegant white gloves, and off-white crepe crop jacket, she looked fantastic.
Helped out of the car by proud dad Alan, her bouquet was presented by the chauffeur. A wonderful splash of colour, with blue and red flowers creating a beautiful contrast against the white of her dress.

A wedding surrounded by familiar faces
Inside Saint Martins, Sam was waiting looking equally smart in his classic dark blue suit, complete with blue buttonhole.
And by this point the anticipation was building, the intimate surroundings felt wonderfully close and personal.
A few extra guests had started to appear too. Members of the church congregation had come along to share this special moment with them. These extra guests were far from strangers, they had already shared part of Zoe and Sam’s journey for many months as they regularly attended church services.
Then the moment everyone was waiting for, Zoe entered the church, walked down the aisle by her father. Smiles were on everyones faces as she made her way to her waiting groom at the front of the church and Priest John, who had taken a day out of his retirement to preside over their ceremony took over.
There was a lovely warmth to the whole occasion, with smiles, emotion and plenty of proud faces looking on as Zoe and Sam exchanged their vows.

Husband and wife
The ceremony was full of tradition but also warm stories and a few chuckles too.
The priest held the gathering in the palm of his hand and helped Zoe and Sam through the ceremony, guiding them along the way and offering wise words on the real meaning of marriage in the modern age, alongside a smattering of anecdotes about the traditions of the wedding day.

And then they were married!
After the ceremony, bride and groom made their way outside to congratulations from their family, friends and members of the congregation.
It was one of those lovely moments where the formality of the ceremony gives way to genuine celebration – hugs, smiles, laughter and plenty of congratulations for the newlyweds.
And thankfully, the Manchester weather had decided to cooperate.
After all that earlier rain, the skies had brightened beautifully and the sunshine appeared, giving us a completely different atmosphere for the celebrations outside.

A wedding day full of meaning
For me, one of the things that made Zoe and Sam’s wedding particularly memorable was the sense of connection running through the whole day.
From Zoe arriving in that beautiful Jaguar with her dad, to the colourful bouquet matching Sam’s blue buttonhole, the little nods to the past and present scattered throughout the service, there were plenty of lovely visual details to photograph and moments to remember.
But it was the people from all areas of Zoe and Sams life coming together that really made it special and gave the ceremony a wonderful personal feel.

Time to celebrate
And then it was time to go from ceremony to celebration.
This was a moment that Sam had waited for. His chance to ride in the magnificent silver open-top Jaguar that had brought Zoe to her wedding.
But it wasn’t just about the car. It was about the journey. Because this journey was a first. Zoe and Sams first journey together as husband and wife.
There’s something wonderfully symbolic about that.
It made for a wonderful final chapter to their time at Saint Martins, with the car providing the perfect touch of classic elegance, as they made their way to continue the celebrations at the Swan with Two Nicks in Little Bollington.
